Her Husband Spent Her Savings On Her Car - Here’s What I Told Her to do

Managing finances in any relationship can be tricky particularly in marriage this is exacerbated when one partner makes a significant financial decision without the other’s consent. Someone recently reached out to me via my #DearRonke YouTube series because her husband had taken the savings she had placed in their joint account and used them to buy a new car without discussing it with her first. She was frustrated, hurt, and unsure of what to do next. I filmed my video response to her situation here:

Money conflicts in relationships are deeply emotional because tied to trust and security. Feeling betrayed in this situation is completely valid particularly given everything we know about financial abuse in some relationships. Before confronting her husband, she needed to process her emotions and prepare for a constructive conversation. Communication is key in any relationship, especially when it comes to finances. I advised her to sit down with her husband and discuss why his decision was problematic and harmful. One major takeaway from this situation was the need for clear financial boundaries.

Financial disagreements don’t have to destroy relationships, but they do highlight the need for trust, communication, and clear expectations. By addressing the root issue and establishing better financial habits, couples can avoid future conflicts and build a stronger financial future together.
