Knowing Your Brand - The Power of Your Personal Brand

I really enjoyed speaking to Alex 'Reads' Holmes on his Time to Talk podcast. We talk about everything from being Black in Public Relations to reputation and crisis. I really enjoyed discussing the relationship between PR and the media in terms of the media relations cycle. We also talked about pop culture, cancel culture and how social media drives the media these days and how social media can have an impact on both individual and business reputations. We also tapped into the concept of appreciating the gifts you have and your worth.  Here's a clip from the episode:

Here's one of my favourite moments from the @WhatMattersWAR podcast episode on how to recognise your gifts and fully appreciating that process. #WhatMattersPod pic.twitter.com/u8aCfCFLrk

I shared invaluable insights into building and maintaining a personal brand, particularly for entrepreneurs, professionals, and creatives. Drawing from my expertise as a PR and personal branding specialist, I emphasise that a strong personal brand is rooted in authenticity and strategic communication.

A personal brand is essentially the story you tell about yourself—your skills, values, and the impression you leave on others. Clarity and purpose are crucial when it comes to personal branding, and it is important for people to identify core values and align their actions with their goals. This self-awareness fosters authenticity, which is a cornerstone of trust and credibility in personal and professional relationships.

Strategic PR efforts, combined with a thoughtful social media presence, can enhance visibility and create opportunities. By showing up and using platforms effectively, individuals can connect with their target audience and expand their reach beyond immediate networks. It’s not always easy of course but it is important in order to raise visibility. This is also why building a supportive community, or "tribe," that can champion your brand and advocate for you in professional spaces is vital. This network not only amplifies your voice but also provides encouragement and accountability.

There is value in measuring success and celebrating milestones along the way. Whether through increased recognition, career breakthroughs, or personal growth, understanding and acknowledging progress helps maintain motivation.

Alex, who is a journalist by profession,  is a great podcast host and passionate about using his Time to Talk platform to discuss well-being, life and the pursuit of happiness through business, artistry and mental health.  This episode was not only fun but it really made me think about my own path and journey to building my business and personal brand.
